Perishables and Frozen Items

Fridge

Perishables are a little more difficult to keep on hand, but I find that certain items do last a little longer and are good to have for those times you need to improvise. Most of these items are basics that you may already use on a daily basis, but here’s a quick look at what I like to keep in my fridge.

The last section of my list is Dried Fruits & Nuts, and although these can be kept in your pantry, I feel they last longer and stay fresher when stored in the refrigerator.

Dairy
Butter
Cheese (I try to keep at least 2 different types)
Cream
Eggs
Milk
Yogurt

Vegetables and Herbs
Carrots
Celery
Cilantro
Garlic
Ginger or Ginger Paste
Lemon
Lime
Onion
Parsley
Potato
Tomato

Freezer

Freezers can be a blessing and a curse. A blessing, because they preserve things you normally would not be able to keep for so long and a curse because sometimes you forget what that frozen, icy package in the back is. If you’re organized (unlike me), it can really help with making meal prep easier. Aside from keeping uncooked ingredients fresh for when you’re ready to use them, you can freeze leftovers or even prepare meals to freeze for quick dinners later on. It’s important to check what you have every once in a while in order to use up ingredients before they have been in there too long, which helps keep waste to a minimum.

Here is an insight into what you might find in my freezer.

Frozen Items
Puff Pastry
Fillo Dough
Refrigerated Toritilla Dough
Ready-to-bake Bread
Wonton Wrappers
Empanada Dough
Chicken (I like breast)
Ground Beef
Peas
Corn
Ice Cream
